Experts say that good wine has high price for a reason. The bouquet of such wine is so delicious that you will savor every drop of it. However, the price can be really steep. Here is a list of the most expensive bottles of wine sold at auction. Would you like to try it?
#1 Chateau Cheval Blanc 1947
In 2006, in San Francisco, a three-liter bottle of this wine was sold for $135125. According to Saint-Emilion classification, this wine grades as A-class. Out of all the merlot brands, only two gained this status.
#2 Cabernet Sauvignon Screaming Eagle
This wine is holding a position of the most expensive wine ever sold at an auction. In 2000 at Napa Valley auction, a six-liter bottle cost $500 000. All the money was spent on charity.

#3 Château d'Yquem 1811
Usually, white wine is cheaper than red one. Wine-makers believe that wine that was made in the Year of the Comet, is extremely delicious. 1811 was the Year of the Comet. A bottle of this white French wine was sold for $117 000.
#4 Château Mouton Rothschild
At the Sotheby's auction in New York, an instalment of Château Mouton Rothschild wine was sold for $310 700. Every 0.75 l. bottle of wine cost $47 000. The wine is popular for its unusual bouquet with a slight eucalyptus flavor.
#5 Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1951
This is one of the most expensive Australian wines. Today fewer than 20 bottles of it exist in the world. In 2004, at an Australian auction, a collector bought a bottle of Penfolds Grange for 50 200 AUD.
#6 Royal De Maria
Royal De Maria ranks as a category of frozen wine. Frozen grapes are used for the production of this wine. This process is very complicated, thus the price is high. The wine is good for desserts. The price is $30 000.
№7 Romanee-Conti 1945
One bottle of Romanee-Conti costs $28 112. An instalment of eight bottles was evaluated $224 900. The process of production is very complicated: you need the whole harvest from three bushes of Pinot Noir grapes to make only one bottle of wine.
#8 Château Lafite 1865
One 0.75 bottle of Château Lafite costs $27 000. The whole instalment was sold for $111 625, to an unknown customer.

Ian Swindale, it is both sweet and white! The 2 terms are not mutually exclusive. It is made from 2 white varieties semillon and sauvignon blanc.

Once more we can see the tremendous unfairness of our current world. Millions upon millions of children as well as ground-up are starving, leaving lives of misery and total depravation but we also have those that can spend a fortune in a ”bottle” of wine. Lets hope that such people spend just as mush in Charity.

Interesting. So glad that I hate the taste of all alcohol, be it wine, champagne or anything else. Thanks to my Dad, I never became any sort of drinker of any sort of alcohol. I remember in 1974 when I was about 17 downing a glass of port wine for the fun of it and being very giggly afterwards although I thought I was ok. My friend and her family had a good laugh at me. Never got hooked on any of it. People would have to pay me to drink any wine. Give us the money any day. There's lots else we could do with it.

Château d'Yquem 1811 is a dessert wine not a white wine unless back in those days it was white. When I worked for Lazard the famous London Merchant Bank they had an interest in Chateau Lafite and we were able to pick up bottles of that wonderful wine for a considerable discount from the price shown and not just for one vintage but usually one every year. Of course not every vintage is as good as the one shown but savouring the ones we got was still something.
