Africa is often described as the continent of wild animals and indigenous tribes. Is it true today?
#1 There is no technical progress in Africa
It is commonly thought that all countries in Africa are underdeveloped. However, the real situation is not so bad as we might think. 90% of African people use phones and there are specialists who develop their own applications and gadgets. Communication technologies are widely used by young people. Besides, South Africa produces more than 500,000 automobiles a year.
#2 Africa is a hot desert
The first word that comes to mind when you hear "Africa" is a "desert". Actually, there are rainforests, savannas, waterfalls, a famous Mount Kilimanjaro and other peaks on the continent. Africa has different types of climate zones: the highest temperatures are in desert areas, the coolest are across the south and in mountainous areas.
#3 Only dark-skinned people live in Africa
People of different skin colors and cultures live in Africa. It is the result of social and political migration of people from Asia and Europe.
#4 You can meet free-roaming wild animals in Africa
Watching films and cartoons about Africa we are sure that a wild animal can easily attack people. However, today most of the wild animals live in national parks.
#5 Africa has no cultural heritage
It is often thought that African countries lack cultural heritage, though it is not true. Africa can be called "the cradle of civilization". For example, in Kenya alone, there are more than 200 architectural monuments.
#6 Africa is the poorest continent
Many people who come to Africa are very surprised to see shopping centers and comfortable recreation areas. Of course, there are countries that live below the poverty line, but their number is not so big as many people think.
#7 All Africans live in huts
Actually, that is not exactly true. Africa is one of the fastest growing continents in the world, there are a lot of apartment buildings and business centers under construction. Every year a large number of tourists choose this destination. The level of service is constantly improving as well as tourism infrastructure. It is a perfect combination of comfort and wild nature.
#8 People here suffer from hunger
We often see starving people in films and photographs and think that this is true for the whole continent. Today, hunger is not a common problem for African countries. Tourist destinations have no food shortages. In general, the problem is connected not with the existence of enough food but with the access to food.
Africans are very hospitable. You may not be offered a deluxe suite, but a warm welcome is almost guaranteed! Have you ever been to Africa? Share your experience in comments!
