#1 In Nepal the Giant Bees of Himalayas make honey that causes hallucinations

These bees are 3 cm long and their nests are 5 feet in diameter. These nests are located on the rocks. The reason why their honey causes hallucinations is the nectar they take from poisonous flowers. The honey is used in medicine and costs much more than the usual one.

#2 Are bees busy?

Bees are quite industrious, they work 2-10 hours a day. When it's getting dark, bees stop working and go to their beehive to have a rest. Those who work more, take a lot of breaks during the day. When aging bees do the work meant for younger bees, their brain stops aging!

#3 Honey bees fly at speeds up to 15 miles per hour!

It might seem very fast for people but in the world of flies, it is rather slow. For example, butterflies can fly at a speed of 35 miles per hour.

#4 Why do bees buzz while flying?

The sound is caused by rapid wing beats. These beats produce a vibration that a human ear detects as buzzing. They buzz also when not flying - to shake some pollen from a flower.
The bigger a bee is, the slower its wings beat.

# 5 A bee can visit 2,000 flowers per day

That is true about a very industrious worker bee. It has a special "honey stomach" to gather the nectar. When it is full, a bee goes back to its beehive. Usually, these bees live for 3-5 weeks.

#6 How do bees communicate?

They use dances, body chemical signals and vibration to share the information with other bees. For example, a scout bee informs others where the nectar or water source are by performing a circle or waggle dance.

#7 What would happen if bees disappeared?

Bees are the main pollinators. If bees went extinct, we would lose all the plants they pollinate. And that would be only the start.

#8 Bees can tell us apart

Australian researchers found out that bees can identify human faces. Their eyes can't see an entire face at once, so they combine it like a puzzle and can tell two different people apart.

My Dad instilled in me the love for bees, have never been afraid of them, been stung only once in spite of freely handling them when only 11 or 12 years of age. Stung because I did not see the bee land on my skirt and brushed it in passing. Am highly allergic as it turned out !! Still have the love and total respect my Dad instilled in me, but am more cautious now .Without these wonderful creatures, man will perish, our food will disappear, and finish.
