One of the most beautiful love stories that will certainly amaze you

Cleopatra and Gaius Julius Caesar were two of the most remarkable people of ancient time. Do you know that they were in love with each other? Here is one of the most famous love stories from the ancient world.

Cleopatra VII Philopator was one of the most iconic women in the whole world. She is said to have been short and plumpy, but very smart and intelligent. There was no woman who could compare with Cleopatra. Her wisdom and intelligence were undisputed, so it's not a big surprise that men adored her.

According to the last will of Ptolemy XII, Cleopatra's father, she and her brother Ptolemy XIII would rule Egypt together. His will was done after his death and Cleopatra and her brother got married following the Egyptian tradition.

At that time, Julius Caesar came to Egypt and asked the two young rulers to repay the debt their father left. However, neither Cleopatra nor Ptolemy XIII wanted to pay. Cleopatra was too smart and asked her servants to dress her up and wrap into a carpet, then they brought the carpet to Caesar.

She gifted herself to the roman commander and after this, celebrated her victory - he fell in love. He waived all her debts. More than that, Caesar fought with her brother for 8 months to make Cleopatra the only ruler in the country. In return, she set up a beautiful two-months voyage through the Nile for him.

Caesar had to go to war again. He wanted to conquer more lands and rule them, with Cleopatra as his wife. She stayed at her native land, because she was pregnant. He fought for more than a year, then he asked her to go to Rome with the baby, Ptolemy XV Philopator Philometor Caesar, also known as Caesarion.

Caesar provided Cleopatra with a beautiful residence to live in, on a shore of the Tiber but his people didn't like the foreign queen. They thought that Caesar wanted to become a Pharaoh and to move the capital into Alexandria. He should have rejected the rumors but he didn't. His close friends killed him.
His last will didn't contain a word about his son, Ptolemy, thus, frightened Cleopatra had to run back home with her child.

Love? A question of power more likely. Cleopatra was known as a very good diplomat and administrator, restoring the Ptolemaic dynasty after a series of poor rulers. Forming powerful coalitions was vital to do that.

...well, I've always thought that her relationships were very significant, but not "happily-ending"...especially since it finally cost her a throne...and her life. However, depending upon what you read/see enacted, I think that she tried to strategize, move for move, as much as possible, with a pretty cool and forward-thinking mind. Kudos to her for that...

Annette Marie Busch, he was sent to Egypt after Caesar was murdered. They fell in love and had twins. He defected from Rome and fought alongside Cleopatra against Octavian. They lost and Marc Antony committed suicide and upon hearing of his death, she also killed herself with an asp.

Connie Hurley, Marrying a close family member, like a sibling was quite common at that time. Tutankhamen apparently was married to his mother. Other Pharoahs were also married to a sibling or even a parent.

Connie Hurley, in Egypt England in Germany and everywhere, in ancient times married you family weather B brother/sister, uncle /niece, it was to keep the blood line pure, that's why there was so much mental illness, disfiguration, and crazy, emperors and royalty that were not right.

I didn't like this story, to much like real life in the big city. But why would she marry her brother?? I had a brother and I loved him but I never wanted to marry him, isn't that called incest ? Makes me want to throw up. Thanks for the info on Cleopatra though. I did not know this.
