Jazz doesn't need us, we need jazz. When Fats, aka Fats Waller was asked what is jazz? He replied that the fact you asked, means, you 'ain't got it.

Jazz as an art form, evolves as anything in nature, pure, true and intelligent

Like most musical genre, Jazz has evolved while retaining its appeal to those like me who remember Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong and later, Ramsey Lewis and the pioneers of smooth jazz. The addition of Latin jazz, chill, and others have increased the overall jazz audience which may never be as large as the rock audience, but is far more loyal.

Love Count Basie's big band. Wes Montgomery's guitar. Vocals by Al Jarreau. Trumpet of Miles. Piano of Bill Evans and the arrangements of Gil Evans. Too many great artists to name them all. For me, if it's not jazz, then I want to listen to Classical. It's been a big part of me.

I adore the swing era and the artists from that time. My late mother played the piano in a dance band during the war years, so I grew up with this music. I still have all her original sheet music.

I prefer modern jazz, the vibraphone being my favourite, synths being the next.
